    An influx of the new

This season has already seen the remount of last years energetic 80′s rock touring show “Zeus on the Loose”. We have now opened “The 25th Annual Putnum County Spelling Bee“, “The Ladies Man” and “The 39 Steps“. And we are well into rehearsals for the 4th season of Boomtown Improv and just began our read through of This Day and Age.

All of this is great of course. But what makes me smile is the amount of heavy lifting being taken on by new members of the company. For example the tech crew, which is largely new to Creede, not only had to do their jobs superbly (which they have), but had to learn Creede’s entire system of running things on top of that and believe me, we’re a special group. The run crew for The 39 Steps needs a bow of its own with all the work they put in behind the scenes and all of them but one are new to the theater. What most of you who come to see the theater have already realized is that a great deal of the acting company is new. Spelling Bee is wowing audiences with a cast that has only 3 returning company members, meaning the new kids are kicking butt and taking names!

All of this newness is not only wonderful, but necessary. As the theater continues to expand and improve it needs new blood to keep pushing it to be better and new ideas to liven the place up with. So, I just want to take a second to tip my hat to the ever impressive group of actors, administrators, and technicians who have taken so much of the weight of this season on themselves and are making it look easy.

    Cheers to the new kids!

      Hi, Michael -

How about some new actor blood from the Bible Belt? A friend of mine who’s working at Shuler Theater in Raton this summer came to see your production of “39 Steps” and he was MUCH impressed … which impressed me … because impressing him isn’t an easy thing to do.

So please tell me, short of driving to Colorado from the Carolinas, how does one become a blip on the Creede family radar screen? Quarterly P&R? That seems so primitive.

Maybe an invitation to my Web site would improve my chances! Here: http://www.creativehammer.com. Yes, maybe that will do it. Maybe you’ll watch the videos there and … email me!

    50 Years/50 Miles

Yesterday, Mo asked me to sit down with him to discuss his strengths and weaknesses as a leader. That he would even ask the question is a credit to his own humility and commitment to personal and professional growth. It was difficult to come up with weaknesses, for as a leader, he is unparalleled. His commitment to excellence, strategic thinking, enthusiasm for the arts, discipline, and patience have intrinsically shaped the CRT community. Over his ten years as Artistic and Executive Director, he’s taken us from a little known community theatre to a nationally recognized Equity house, doubling our annual patronage to 20,000 people, and pumping over $2MM into the local economy. With his forward thinking and inspiring mentality, Mo has shaped an organization that can step confidently towards the future.

Yet, Mo doesn’t want to just walk there, he wants to run. On June 19th, Mo will join a handful of ultra-runners in Lake City for the San Juan Solstice 50 Mile Run. For Mo, this run isn’t about pushing the physical and mental limits of his body, it’s about celebrating CRT’s 45 year history in these wild, rugged mountains. Much like the 13,000 feet of elevation gain Mo will have to traverse during his run, our history is a history rich with seemingly insurmountable challenges. Why did the KU students even came back for a second season? Was it naïveté or vision? How were we able to open our doors again after the fire of ‘74? Was it pure tenacity or insanity? Yet, for 45 years, there has been little doubt about our purpose or the importance of our contribution to the world, and like Mo, we run along the rocky path towards our goal of 50: 50 years/50 miles.

Mo is running for the CRT, running 50 miles to get us to 50 years, and we can all run with him – showing our support for his leadership and the future of the Theatre – by making a pledge per mile. Check out our website or call to make your pledge today.
